[趣释]【经典喻指】“吉德罗依”(Gilderoy)原是苏格兰(Scotland)著名盗贼。此人长相英俊,不仅个子高,还长一头红发,故被人称作“吉德罗依”,意思是“红头发”。他从小无恶不作,最后和五个同伙一起被送上了绞架。他的罪行是在苏格兰博得斯郡(Borders)抢劫和偷牛。1638年,在爱丁堡(Edinburgh)附近被处以绞刑。按照当时英国刑法规定,罪越大,上绞刑的绞架越高。由于吉德罗依被判最重的罪,行刑时还特地做了一座高大的绞架,他悬在绞架上如同一个“红发的风筝”。后来,在英国口语中,人们就用“比红发风筝还高”(higher than Gilderoy's kite)或“比风筝还高”(higher than a kite)喻指高得看不见,被罚处极重;俚语中还喻指喝酒醉,如痴如狂。
