response
If friends from another country were visiting the United States, I would definitely recommend that they visit New York City. There is no city in America that is more exciting than New York. They could do everything from visiting the bright lights of Times Square to taking a nice walk in Central Park to looking at interesting art at the Museum of Modern Art. In addition, going around the city is very convenient. New York’s subway system runs all around the city, and all night long, so even if they want to stay out late, they will have an affordable way to travel around.

response
I disagree with the statement. I believe that learning in a traditional classroom setting is far better than learning online. When you learn online, there is no professor and no other students around you; as such, it is easier not to really pay attention or to do other things. In a traditional classroom, you can discuss your ideas with the professor or your fellow students. I believe that the best learning is done through conversation, but in online courses, there is no conversation at all.

response
The university has a plan to eliminate its sculpture class, and the woman in the conversation is upset about it. She believes that it is a wrong decision. While the university claims that no students are enrolling in the sculpture course, the woman says that the reason is that art students have so many other requirements, like painting and drawing that they don’t have time to take the sculpture course. She suggests that the requirements be changed. Also, she says that the university could save money by just hiring a part-time professor to teach sculpture, like one of their painting professors, instead of hiring a full-time professor. This way, the class could still be offered in a low budget.

response
Behavior modification concerns how we act; if we receive a positive response to an action we do, we are more likely to repeat it, and if we are punished, we are less likely to repeat it. The professor uses the example of young children to exhibit this phenomenon. When young children first go to school, they misbehave, and when the teachers get mad at them, they lose playtime privileges or something similar. This negative response lets the children know that acting that way brings bad results, so they stop. However, when they act nicely, the teachers reward them with compliments and happy stickers on their work. So, they repeat these good actions.

response
It is the end of the semester at the university. However, the woman’s problem is that her computer has just broken down and will not be fixed until the end of next week, when her papers are due. She can do two possible things. She can work at the computer lab or she can call the repair center and ask if the computer can be fixed sooner. I believe that she should call the repair shop. Since the computer lab could be crowded and noisy, if her computer is fixed sooner, she can think and work quietly, and get her papers done on time. Waiting a few days to call because of the holiday isn’t a huge problem.

response
The two major factors of product quality are reliability and features. Reliability used to be most important; if things worked properly and didn’t have any problems, we would purchase them. For example, if a car breaks down a lot and has many problems, we call it unreliable. The other factor is features. Nowadays, modern production methods have made reliability for most goods equal. So, we look for the “coolness” or the features of the product to see if we want to buy it. For example, if the car has a sunroof or a TV in the backseat, we are more likely to buy it.
