Part 1 Checking in

Atthe reception desk, Linda is helping Mr.Ribery check in.The following is the conversation among Linda, thereceptionist and Mr.Ribery.

Receptionist: Good morning. Welcome to Ramada Hotel. How may I help you?

Linda: Good morning. I'm Linda Zhang from Wuhan ProStar Electronics Co., Ltd.. Last week I reserved a single room for Mr. Ribery our guest, from Auchan Group of France. Now he'd like to check in.

Receptionist: Mmm, just one moment, please. Well, Madam. Under what name did you make the reservation?

Linda: Mr. Franck Ribery.

Receptionist: OK.Let me check.(Checking the reservation list)Ah, yes, here it is. You booked a single room for 3 nights.Is that right?

Linda: Yes, that's right.

Receptionist: Excuse me. Mr. Ribery. May I see your passport?

Mr. Ribery: Certainly. Here you are.

Receptionist: Thank you, Mr. Ribery. Nice to meet you. Welcome to our hotel.

Mr. Ribery: Thank you. And nice to meet you, too.

Receptionist: Could you just fill in this form and sign your name here, please?

Mr.Ribery:(After filling in the form)Here you are.

Receptionist: Mr. Ribery, How many days are you staying here?

Mr. Ribery: 3 days.

Receptionist: That means you are checking out on Feb 24th. Well, the room rate is 800 yuan per night. Therefore you need to pay 3000 yuan as a deposit. How are you going to pay, in cash or by credit card?

Mr. Ribery: By credit card. And here's my credit card.

Receptionist: Thank you.(The receptionist swipes the card)Mr.Ribery, please sign your name here.

Mr. Ribery: Oh, yes.

Receptionist: Thank you. Your room number is 1506 and here is your room card. This is your deposit receipt. Please keep them. The bellboy will show you to your room. I hope you'll enjoy staying with us.

Mr. Ribery: Thank you. By the way, what time is breakfast served?

Receptionist: There is a continental breakfast buffet from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, and it's on the second floor. Oh, this is your breakfast coupon.

当入住酒店时,客人须交纳一定数额的押金。房间条件越好,入住时间越长,须交的押金会相应多一些。每个酒店要求支付押金的数额不一样。押金可以以现金方式支付,也可以直接刷信用卡,也可以采取信用卡预授权的方式。

Part 2 Checking out

Mr.Ribery is leaving Wuhan.Before leaving he has to settle his bill.And after checking this through, he pays by credit card.The following is the dialogue between Mr.Ribery and the cashier.

Mr. Ribery: Good morning.

Cashier: Good morning. What can I do for you?

Mr. Ribery: I'd like to check out now. Can I have the bill, please?

Cashier: Yes, of course. But could I know your room number and your name, please?

Mr. Ribery: Yes, my name is Franck Ribery and I was in Room 1506. And here is my room card.

Cashier: Just a moment, please, Mr.Ribery.I'll have your bill ready in a minute.(The cashier checks it in the computer.Aftera while, thebill is ready)So you've stayed here for three nights.This is your bill and it totals 2,800 yuan.Please check it.

Mr.Ribery: Thank you.(Reads)Room charges, meals, IDD calls, laundry…Right.

Cashier: You paid 3000 deposit, then we'll refund you 200 yuan.

Mr. Ribery: That's right.

Part 3 Laundry service

Mr.Ribery has some laundry, and now he is calling the laundry service department to ask someone to get the laundry.

Laundry service: Good afternoon. What can I do for you?

Mr. Ribery: Could you send someone up for my laundry, please? This is Room 1506.

Laundry service: Certainly, Sir. If you have any now, I'll ask a valet to collect it in a few minutes. You can also just leave it in the laundry bag behind the bathroom door. The room attendant comes over to collect it every morning.

Mr. Ribery: Thank you.

Laundry service: Please tell us or notify in the list whether you need your clothes ironed, washed, dry-cleaned or mended and also what time you want to get them back.

Mr. Ribery: Thank you. But please ask somebody get it now.

Laundry service: OK. The valet will be up in a few minutes. Bye.

Valet: Generally speaking, the laundry collected before 10 o'clock in the morning will be sent back before 7 o'clock in the evening at the same day. But now it is already 1 o'clock in the afternoon and then they will be back tomorrow. But would you like express service?

Mr. Ribery: What is the difference in price?

Valet: We charge 50% more for express, but it only takes 5 hours.

laundry可以表示“洗衣店,洗衣房”, “要洗或洗好的衣服”, “洗熨服务”等意思。它的动词是launder,表示“洗衣”, “洗熨”等,而wash仅表示“用水洗”,所以酒店里“洗衣”用laundry表示,因为客人一般要求洗后熨烫。更多例子如下:

● Tips for staying at a hotel

There are things that are acceptable and not acceptable that you can do when staying at a hotel. Understanding and following these will ensure your stay is trouble free and enjoyable.

1.Sign up for frequent guest programs you can get upgrades and other great perks.

2.Make advance reservations, print it out and take it with you.Shortly after booking online, call the hotel to confirm they received it and everything is as you reserved.

3.Make sure your credit card has sufficient funds for a preauthorization.If that card is declined when they check it, they will cancel the room even though you intended to pay with another card.The hotel does not know that and has to take precautions.

4. Special requests should be addressed before you arrive. They are never guaranteed. But the sooner you put the request in, the more likely you are to get it.

5. Don't be rude to the staff, hospitality goes both ways.

6. Some things happen that are out of the staff's control. If they are having power or water troubles, It's most likely something the staff can't fix right away and has to wait for someone to help. Be patient with them and keep your cool. If it can't be fixed, you can transfer to another hotel.

7. Keep your room much like you would keep your own room, pick up trash, and keep your linens separate from the hotels to avoid losing yours. It's not mandatory to tip housekeepers but of course it is always welcome. Do not tip on the last day of your stay, most likely there have been several different housekeepers keeping your room clean for you. It is ok to leave a small tip daily.

8. Business travelers try not to use your room as a meeting space; most hotels will have meeting rooms or business centers which can better accommodate your business needs.

9. Allow staff sufficient time to fullfill your requests, especially at night there are only a handfull of employees there and they need to attend to the front desk as much as possible.

10. Avoid checking in late at night, most hotels will get full or even overbooked. Try to get there before the rush. Always make sure your room is guaranteed with a credit card if you are arriving later in the afternoon.

1 1. Take advantage of the hotel's secure storage facilities if you are traveling with valuables. Do not leave them in your room.

12. Use the peep hole and keep the dead bolt locked, if someone is at your door and you do not know them or feel uncomfortable, call the front desk.
