2020年，全球新兴产业仍然保持着较高的增长趋势，规模不断发展壮大，世界新兴产业前沿技术研究不断取得新突破，人工智能、生物医疗、新材料领域技术研发取得重要进展，全球合作不断深化，合作机制日益多元化，新兴产业开始融合渗透到其他产业链，其融合广度和深度不断加强。
2020年，我国政府不断优化政策环境，进一步扶持新兴产业发展，2020年1—11月，规模以上战略性新兴服务业企业营业收入同比增长8.6%，增速高于规模以上服务业7个百分点，新兴产业发展空间继续拓展。全国各地区新兴产业整体发展态势良好，东部地区新兴产业继续快速增长并保持领先，其余各地区新兴产业稳步前进。中国技术创新能力不断增强，多个战略性新兴产业取得重大技术突破。新兴产业及代表企业持续发力，市场地位继续提升。
展望2021年，新兴产业集群与都市圈发展并进，成为地方经济增长的重要引擎。新材料产业的战略地位不断提高，与其他产业之间的融合不断加深。新兴产业领域国际竞争与合作并存。“十四五”时期，战略性新兴产业将成为我国现代经济体系建设的新支柱，是破解经济社会发展不平衡、不充分难题的关键产业。战略性新兴产业集群以提升产业创新能力、坚持开放融合发展为发展方向，以筑牢产业安全体系、破解产业发展“卡脖子”问题为核心任务，提高新兴产业集群现代化治理能力，推动集群内大中小企业协同发展，构建战略性新兴产业集群创新共同体，完善新兴产业集群公共服务体系建设。
