User Role Editor

The User Role Editor plugin focuses on the administrative aspects of users compared to the frontend features we discussed in the previous two plugins. This plugin is intended to manage the user roles and capabilities of your application. Earlier in this chapter, we created user roles manually and used the Members plugin to view capabilities. This is also a similar plugin with many more additional features. Let's have a look at some of the key features of User Role Editor:

  • Manage user roles and assign capabilities
  • Block admin menu items by role
  • Display widgets based on selected roles
  • Block admin meta boxes based on role

You can download User Role Editor and test its features for user role management from https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/.

We have discussed three important plugins for adding user management features to your applications. You can find hundreds of such plugins that offer a wide range of user-related features in the WordPress plugin directory at https://wordpress.org/plugins/.
