Configuring vSphere Distributed Switch general and dvPort group settings

You can change the settings of a vDS by using the vSphere Web Client and selecting the desired vDS in the Networking inventory.

Then right-click and choose Settings | Edit Settings..., or select the Configure tab and click on the Edit... button in the Properties menu:

Figure 2.7: vDS general settings

The General settings of a vDS are quite similar to what you can see during the creation of a new vDS, but now there is the ports counter and the option to assign a name for each uplink. You can change MTU and NIOC settings, and also modify the number of uplinks.

For more information, see the vSphere 6.5 Networking guide (https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/com.vmware.vsphere.networking.doc/GUID-E0FED4AB-823D-4B61-B668-9400746D52E5.html).

To change the dvPort settings, you can right-click on a dvPort and choose Edit Settings..., or again use the Configure tab of the dvPort.

The general options are exactly the same as discussed during the creation of a dvPort.

There are several other options discussed later. But also, there is the possibility to define some possible override at the port level, using the Advanced menu:
