Configuring and customizing the Windows desktop
There may be many reasons why you would like to customize the Windows Desktop on your computer. However, a common reason for, I guess, every user could be the fact that the working area of a computer screen is the desktop that stimulates everyone's work. The Windows Desktop was first introduced in Windows 95 and since then it has been an integral component of Windows OSes. It consists of the work area and the taskbar. As we organize things on a physical desktop, almost in a similar format, we also organize icons in the Windows Desktop. So, in Windows 10, the most common icon that you can find on the Windows desktop is the Recycle Bin. However, you can also add many favorite icons and hence create shortcuts to your favorite apps.
To configure and customize the background for your Windows Desktop, complete the following steps:
- Click the Start button.
- With the Start menu open, select Settings.
- Select Personalization from the Windows Settings dialog box.
- You'll notice that Background is opened by default, as it's the first item listed in the Personalization setting's navigation menu.
- From the Background drop-down list, you can select such options as Picture, Solid Color, and Slideshow, as shown in the following screenshot:
To configure and customize the colors for your Windows Desktop, complete the following steps:
- Click the Start button.
- With the Start menu open, select Settings.
- Select Personalization from the Windows Settings dialog box.
- Select Colors on the Personalization setting's navigation menu.
- Select your favorite Windows colors from the color palette, as shown in the following screenshot:
To configure and customize the theme for your Windows Desktop, complete the following steps:
- Click the Start button.
- With the Start menu open, select Settings.
- Select Personalization from the Windows Settings dialog box.
- Select Themes on the Personalization navigation menu.
- Either select any of the available themes or select Get more themes in Microsoft Store, as shown in the following screenshot:
