Device drivers
In Windows 10, you have the ability to manage devices through Devices in Windows Settings, and manage devices and their drivers by using Device Manager from Computer Management. Unlike Devices, Device Manager uses a slightly different representational approach for device drivers. Other than the proper representation of device drivers, there are also the following representations (as shown in Figure 3.2):
- The generic status indicates that a generic device driver is installed. A generic driver is an alternative driver applied by an operating system from its driver store in a situation when the original driver from the manufacturer is missing.
- The black exclamation mark on a yellow triangle status indicates that either the device driver is missing, or an installed device driver is not installed properly.
- The downward black arrow status indicates a disabled driver. To enable it, you simply right-click on the device driver and select Enable:
