Abstract
As an ancient on-land commercial and trade route connecting Asia and Europe, the ancient Silk Road in Southern China(often referred to as the“South Silk Road”),and its related issues have long been attracting the attention of academia. However, there are relatively fewer researches on“South Silk Road”than on the well-known“North Silk Road”and“Maritime Silk Road”,and there are especially even fewer researches on the economic and cultural ideas contained in the business activities along the Silk Road. The“South Silk Road”is the earliest road for opening up,a road for business development and expansion,a road for multicultural development and peaceful development and also a road for travel and expanding culture.Based on this, this paper is mainly composed of the following six parts:
The introduction introduces the historical overview, historical background, research value of economic and cultural issues along the“South Silk Road”,the theoretical framework and method selection of this book,as well as the innovation of this book;the first chapter talks about the rise and fall of the“South Silk Road”. The“South Silk Road”emerged during the pre-Qin period, rose and developed during the Sui and Tang dynasties, and it became prosperous in the Yuan and Ming dynasties. With the changes in the regional political structure,it went up and down during the Qing Dynasty, prospered in the Jiaqing and Daoguang period, and declined in the late Republic of China. The second chapter analyzes the economic and cultural value of the“South Silk Road”,and the core value is reflected in the long history of the economy and culture contained in the“South Silk Road”. With the help of a long trade route, trade exchanges along the route are connected, and a number of prosperous commercial towns are born, which promotes cultural exchange between Europe and Asia. The historical value of the“South Silk Road”is manifested in opening up and developing trade channels connecting the land and sea in the south, and spreading the ancient Chinese culture to neighboring countries and regions.Nevertheless, the development of the“South Silk Road”is inevitably restricted and influenced by the natural environment, social and economic factors in various periods, and it reflects the economic development history in China and related regions. The third chapter summarizes the basic forms of the“South Silk Road”economic culture, and uses the method of typology to analyze the emergence, development and characteristics of economic and cultural forms such as business culture, transportation culture, salt and iron culture, shell coin culture, bronze culture, and jade culture. The fourth chapter discusses the integration of the“South Silk Road”economy and culture. From a multidisciplinary perspective,it discusses the economic and cultural exchanges among the major ethnic groups along the commercial road. The fifth chapter explores the renaissance of the“South Silk Road”economy and culture. In addition,it examines the opportunities and challen ges faced by the development of the“South Silk Road”in the new era with historical materialism, and analyzes the status and role of Yunnan as a radiation center in the construction of the“Belt and Road”. At the same time,in the context of the Indian Ocean strategy and the establishment of a community of shared destiny for mankind in Asia,it proposes countermeasures for the construction of the“South Silk Road”economic belt, and recommends the establishment of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor to revive the economic and cultural development along the“South Silk Road”.
This book uses relevant comprehensive and systematical materials to deeply explore the economic and cultural issues of the ancient“South Silk Road”from a multi-disciplinary perspective, elaborates on the creation and development history of the ancient“South Silk Road”in detail, and discusses its implications and economic culture.Furthermore,it analyzes the role of the“South Silk Road”in the economic activities of ancient China and transnational regions, and highlights the opportunities and challenges it faces in the context of the national“Belt and Road”construction in the new historical period. This provides a new perspective for a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of this trade and cultural exchange channel, and it also provides important historical reference and practical inspiration for the analysis, research and understanding of human cross-regional economic and cultural exchange activities.
