Summary

In this chapter, we were introduced to Microsoft BizTalk Server 2010; its architecture, components, and runtime. We discussed how the Message Box is the core of the publish subscribe model and how this pattern allows us to have loosely coupled solutions that are asynchronous and scalable. We covered how BizTalk achieves scalability and reliability through the use of immutable messages in the Message Box and how streams are used to enable a flat memory footprint for the runtime under any load. We also set out the ambitious goals that we plan to accomplish with BizTalk. For more detailed coverage of the BizTalk runtime environment, see Chapter 4, Operating BizTalk.
