5　Coupling Selection

5.1　General

5.1.1　Unless otherwise specified,the coupling shall be of the flexible type.The flexible coupling is one that is able to simultaneously accept angular misalignment,parallel or lateral offset and axial displacement.Metallic flexible-element coupling shall be designed and constructed for a minimum service life of five years,and three years for gear and torsional damping and resilient couplings.Unless agreed by purchaser in writing,couplings supplied by the vendor shall be within the range of his design and manufacture experiences,and shall have two or more years of proven applications available for at least two same model couplings operated under the same or similar process conditions.

5.1.2　Unless otherwise specified,all couplings shall be of the spacer type.

5.1.3　Coupling type should be selected from Table 1.
