PART I Introduction
Part I is a condensed introduction to the many facets of project management. If you are an experienced project manager, you may choose to skip portions of this introduction. However, we hope that if you do read these first two chapters, you will find some helpful insights.
The purpose of this book and its organization are discussed in Chapter 1. Background on general project management is presented in Chapter 2. Obviously, project managers need more than knowledge of EVMS to be successful. Although we do not intend to present a comprehensive treatment of project management, we try to broaden your understanding of the project management environment. In addition to discussing what it takes to be a successful project manager and project team, we briefly address project life cycles, the project management office, and the stages of project management maturity.
