Celebrate

We often rush from one thing to the next, not taking time to mark appropriately what has succeeded. A celebration of your choosing helps to solidify and consolidate your accomplishment. It also creates motivation for the next effort.

It is critical to understand that as you learn, apply, and evaluate, and then restart the cycle, the learning and growth will deepen, becoming more powerful and more fundamental in nature. You may feel like you’re operating on progressively higher and higher ground, in more rarified air. That’s growth, as you discover and engage the self, and it’s metaphorically what T.S. Eliot is writing about in the quotation that opens this chapter. You are discovering more and more powerfully your true self, not a provisional, compromised, or fragmented version. As you do, your potential for effectiveness as a leader can rise tremendously. The significance and weight of this is important to remember as you encounter what can get in the way.
