1.4 The basic layout of this book

The foundation of this book is empirical analysis, with the purpose to construct a theory of independent innovation based on our national conditions and to clarify the concept and connotation of independent innovation based on theoretical research on typical cases.

This book is divided into six chapters: The first chapter is the introduction, where the concept of independent innovation is defined and clarified, and the main types of independent innovation are set forth. The second chapter discusses the urgency for implementation of the Chinese strategy of independent innovation. Its practical implications are: China exchanges market for technology; Japan laid the foundation for imitation and the development of innovation; the Republic of Korea laid the foundation through introduction and carried on into the future with innovation. Then, this book affirms that China must adhere to the national strategy of independent innovation and it points out the relevant constraints on China's independent innovation. The third chapter discusses the effective path of independent innovation in China. Based on the case analysis, there is a summary of the paths towards independent innovation where enterprises carry out innovation activities from low-end to high-end (implementation, adoption, and re-innovation) in China, or through integrated innovation based on knowledge (integrated innovation), and innovation directly from the high-end (original innovation).

The fourth chapter discusses the building of independent innovation capacity, the model and path of Chinese independent innovation, which involves the ability for innovation and independent innovation, the model of enterprise innovation and the path towards industrial innovation, the construction of a model and the innovation ability of enterprises, the construction of a path and industrial capability for independent innovation. The fifth chapter discusses the technology and mechanism of the method of integration in the independent innovation of enterprises, involving the relationship between technological integration and independent innovation, the content and process of technological integration, technological integration from two angles, and a feasible mechanism of technological enterprise integration. The sixth chapter discusses the guarantee system of Chinese independent innovation, namely the construction of a system of innovation, involving the historical evolution of China's national system of innovation and the problems related to the construction of a system of independent innovation oriented to the system of country, industry and enterprise innovation.
