Nowadays, the number of Chinese students going abroad in pursuit of higher education has been increasing steadily.1 Studying abroad is fun, exciting and life-changing, but it is also filled with challenges.2
Firstly3, studying abroad can be costly, especially in terms of college tuition and the cost of living. When one lives on a stringent budget, his or her quality of life will slip away. Secondly3, adapting to a different culture can be very difficult. Many overseas students meet with language weakness and poor adaptability to foreign environments, which are barriers when they participate in various college activities. Lastly3, studying abroad isn’t the ticket to a good job. Many college students optimistically think that having an overseas diploma can help them find a decent job. However, remarkable capacity for work is what employers value more.
Therefore, think twice before deciding to go abroad.4 Going abroad is not the only way to expand future career opportunities.5

【译文】
如今，出国留学深造的中国学生的数量一直在稳步增长。留学是有趣的、令人兴奋的、可以改变人生的，但是也充满挑战。
首先，留学会很昂贵，尤其是大学学费和生活开销方面。如果一个人的生活捉襟见肘，他/她的生活品质将不复存在。其次，适应不同的文化会非常困难。许多留学生都会遭遇语言劣势以及难以适应国外环境的情况，这些都是留学生参加各种各样的大学活动时的障碍。最后，留学并不是通往好工作的直通票。许多大学生乐观地认为，拥有国外文凭就可以帮助他们找到一份体面的工作。然而，出众的工作能力才是雇主更加看重的。
因此，在决定留学之前一定要三思。留学并非拓宽未来职业机会的唯一途径。

【句法点评】
1．Many overseas students meet with language weakness and poor adaptability to foreign environments, which are barriers when they participate in various college activities.
本句为复合句，which引导定语从句，修饰先行词language weakness and poor adaptability，when引导时间状语从句。poor adaptability意为“糟糕的适应性”，引申翻译为“难以适应……”。
2．Lastly, studying abroad isn’t the ticket to a good job.
本句使用了the ticket to...这一固定表达，原本意为“通往……的车票”，该表达中介词to后面一般要接表示具体目的地的名词，而本句中to的宾语是a good job，是一个抽象概念，用在此处是一种形象化的说法。和写汉语作文一样，写英语作文时恰当使用比喻、拟人等修辞手法，可以使语言变得更加形象生动，让人眼前一亮。
