Fang Xiuyu

Abstract The sensitive geographical position of the Korean Peninsula and the fragile relationship between ROK and the DPRK make the Korean Peninsula issues concerned by the whole Northeast Asia, and influence the regional security as well. Therefore, the international community and related experts keep focusing on the situation of the region. During the Post-Cold War era, the relationship between ROK and DPRK had been improved through the joint efforts of the two sides during the Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun administration. However, during the Lee Myung-bak administration, both sides adjusted their policies due to the various internal and external factors, leading to the relationship between ROK and DPRK in a state of tension, opposition and even conflict. After Park Geun-hye took office, the new government proposed a policy of“trust-building process”based on previous policies regarding the DPRK. This article aims to analyze ROK'S policy toward DPRK on the basis of theory and practice.
