Mount Fuji, Japanese called Fujiyama or Fuji No Yama, is the highest mountain in Japan, rising to 12,388 feet (3,776 meters) near the Pacific coast in Yamanashi and Shizuoka, central Honshu, about 60 miles (100 km) west of Tokyo. It is a volcano that has been dormant since its last eruption in 1707 but is still generally classified as active by geologists. The mountain's name, of Ainu origin, means “everlasting life”. Mount Fuji, with its graceful conical form, has become famous throughout the world and is considered the sacred symbol of Japan. People in Japan love the mountain, and climbing up to the summit is a dream of many people. Although Fuji can be climbed all year round, the official climbing season is July and August. At this time the peak is snow-free and the huts providing refuge and food along the way are open.

Getting There 抵达方法

Transport: Fujikyuko bus from Tokyo's JR Shinjuku station to Kawagutiko station. From Kawagutiko, take the bus to Fuji Gogome.

交通：富士东京大巴车从东京新宿火车站发车，到卡瓦库多车站，从卡瓦库多站也有返程车。

Best Time to Visit Fujiyama 游览富士山的最佳时间

The official climbing season starts on July 1 and ends on August 31.

If you wish to climb in the off-season, you must submit a climbing plan to the local police or drop it in the post in front of the police box on the 5th station. No huts or shops are open during the off-season, and the road to the 5th station is closed after mid-November until late-April.

登山旺季从每年的7月1号开始到8月31号结束。

如果你想在淡季登山，则需要向当地公安局提交一份登山计划，也可以将自己的计划书投递到第五站点警察局前的邮箱里。淡季时，山上所有的商店和住处都不营业。第五站点在十一月中旬到次年四月都不营业。

旅途提示 Tips for Your Visit

The sunlight is strong on the mountain. You need to protect yourself from sunburn with long sleeved shirts, long trousers, headgear and sunglasses. Your shoes should be comfortable mountaineering boots or trekking shoes with a thick sole that has no gaps for small stones to get caught into.

山上的紫外线很强，需要穿长袖的衣服、长裤，戴上帽子和太阳镜防晒。登山鞋一定要舒适合脚；最好鞋底要厚，不能有缝隙，以防石子进入鞋内。
